GUWAHATI: The All India U-19 Junior Ranking badminton competition will begin at the DTRP Indoor Stadium in the city on Wednesday. Approximately 1,500 boys and girls, including 100 from the home state, are anticipated to compete.

According to Assam Badminton Association (ABA) secretary Omar Rashid, there will be singles, doubles, and mixed doubles divisions for the competition.

The top seeds in the boys' singles competition are the Haryana boys, Manraj Singh and Gagan, while Tonmoy Bikash Boruah, a local youngster, gets the No. 12 seed. Unnati Hooda and Anmol Kharb of Haryana are the top-seeded women's singles players in the group.

Nicholas Nathan Raj and Tushar Suveer of Karnataka are the top seeds in the boys' doubles division, while Shreya Balaji and Srinidhi N of Tamil Nadu are the top seeds in the girls' doubles division. Arulmurugan R and Srinidhi N from Tamil Nadu are the top-seeded combinations in mixed doubles.

The competition is important for the competing players since national camps for the upcoming Asian Junior Badminton Championship will be chosen from the competition.

From July 7 to 16, Yogyakarta, Indonesia will host the Asian Junior Badminton Championship.

The top eight competitors in both the boys' and girls' singles competitions will receive invitations to the selection trials, which will take place in the nation's capital from June 4 to 7.

Boys' doubles, girls' doubles, and mixed doubles are the three-pair events that will feature the top four teams from the competition. These teams will also have the opportunity to compete in the selection trials in New Delhi.

For the first four days of the competition (May 10–13), matches in all categories will be played in qualifying rounds, followed on May 14 by the main draw events. May 16 is set aside for the quarterfinals and semifinals, while May 17 is reserved for the finals in each category.

Everyday matchups will start at 9 a.m., and the final's start time will be determined as the competition goes on.

The majority of age-group events have been tainted by controversy throughout the years, with age cheating being the most serious. There have been many instances of players fighting in younger age groups to advance unfairly and wrong deserving candidates. They often had phony documents and thick skins.

Multiple instances of age fraud during the All India Sub-Junior Under-13 ranking tournaments in Hyderabad and later in Mohali in 2022 prompted outraged parents to protest against the participation of over-aged children and call for an investigation into the claims made by the suspected players.
